Penguins Arctic Animals

So today we started out the week on Arctic animals first we start with the globe to see where the Arctic is and talk about if cold or not there . We talk about penguins coat , waxy (we felt some wax) . Then we took the wax pcs color on paper with them and then water colors over to see how the wax (coat of penguin )repels the water and cold. . You could do the same with color crayons . What they eat . how tall they can . They get to around 4 feet which is around the size of some preschool so we measured our self to see how tall penguins are to us .

Then we made out books so the children can go home and share with their parents about penguin . The books where taken from kidsoup.com

Sunday Science area

Ok i get asked what my set-up like . No way prefect as it my home i share with my family of 6 . My children are 19 college student , 16 year old JR and 11yr old 6th grade and my baby 10 5th grade . My house is not big all means 3 bedroom (we have made a 4th )2 bathrooms 3 level spilt .

So this is my science area . It one Conor in my kitchen .We always have something in there . We grown seeds in spring , Then last year we had a turtle T and then had 5 butterfly's .. Then Buddy came inside from the pond from out side . We also have a pineapple top we are growing and will plant in spring . Then we also have these funny Chea pets . Just to ad some live there until spring ..

I decide that i wanted to try some table games each month to go on shelve or tables .

So we are starting with travel Hungry Hungry Hippo .. I like This travel game as it all enclosed no pc to get lost ..

ps best part they are 5.00 each and i used a 5.00 coupon so i got them free .. but even not pretty cheap to add something new ..

Mama Do you Love Me .

As we are study cold and moving into the Arctic I thought I'd start with Mama Do You Love Me . Talk a little about the Inuits:

Inuits is a group of cultural inhabiting the Arctic regions. So we of course talked about how they dressed and what animals live there . As next week we will be doing Arctic animal. Of course these should of been a picture of them self but they did there own expression . Now it would be cute i could of added there face to the picture after they color but i did not today .. Many ideas .

Letter Ll

So every Thursday we do the letter of the week . This week it was Ll . Lace, love, lips, legs etc

We first always start with intro to the letter . then we make a list of words that start with L . Then we do trace page the letter Ll . Then we do a craft with the letter . Today was lace L.

Snow flake collage

So yesterday after noon after nap and snack I just gave them a bunch of snow flakes, stickers and chalk to draw with .. Dark blue paper Let them create their winter scenes.

Snow Flakes

So we are doing all kinds of snow flake today Again i have children here 2yrs to 11years so many different level or learning taking place .

So first we did coffee filter snow flakes

I showed The children how to fold a snowflake

Fold in 1/2 , then again in 1/2 then again in 1/2 . round wider point at bottom . Then i showed them how to cut a few (i said two or three pcs out ) Then open up and see what you have .

Then we took are water color paint and used our droppers in blues and purples to drop and spread on the coffee filter snow flake ..

I have coffee filter and scissor out for them to keep working on white snowflakes and learn them self . They can color them later if they like .

Then i made star shape with craft sticks (i hot glued them together ) and gave them yarn (i tied it to the stick) and had them wrap them around and around until they where out of yarn . makes a shape of a snow flake .
